Object IIThe Plume

कलगी /kal·gī/ noun — the plume that turns a turban into a coronation.

Kalgis & Sarpech

A safa is dressed. A kalgi is crowned.

Jewelled kalgis and sarpech that sit at the front of the safa — kundan, pearl-drop and feathered pieces sized to the turban we tie, not to a display case.

How this object is chosen

01

One plume, one story

A kalgi is the exclamation mark of the safa — wear one, and let it be certain. Kundan for tradition, pearl-drop for softness, feathered for drama.

02

Metal follows metal

The kalgi’s tone should agree with your buttons and brooch — gold with gold, silver with polki. We match all three in the atelier so you never have to think about it.

03

Pinned by hand, not hoped for

A kalgi that leans ruins every photograph after 8pm. Ours are pinned and weighted against the safa we tie, so the plume stays exactly where it was crowned.

Questions, answered

What is the difference between a kalgi and a sarpech?

Both sit at the front of the turban. A sarpech is the broader jewelled ornament; the kalgi is the plumed crest that rises from it. Historically the kalgi marked royalty — which is precisely why grooms wear one.

Will the kalgi hold on my safa all evening?

Yes — if it is pinned to a properly tied safa. When we tie the safa, we set the kalgi against it and weight it correctly, so it does not lean by the reception.

Can the kalgi match my sherwani buttons and brooch?

It should. We coordinate kalgi, brooch and buttons in the same metal tone and stone language so the whole look reads as one decision, not three purchases.

Do you make kalgis for family members too?

The kalgi is traditionally the groom’s alone — we advise keeping it that way. For fathers and brothers we suggest brooched safas without the plume.

Send us the outfit. We finish it.

Kalgi for the Groom — Sarpech & Turban Ornaments

The kalgi is the oldest piece of groom jewellery in India — the plumed crest that once marked kings and now crowns grooms. Ankit V Kapoor makes kalgis and sarpech for weddings in kundan, pearl and feathered settings, each one sized and pinned against the safa tied in our own atelier so it holds its angle from the baraat to the last dance.

Buy a kalgi for the groom online or have one matched in person to your safa, sherwani buttons and brooch at our Gurugram or Delhi studios. We ship groom kalgis and turban ornaments across India and worldwide.
